Why do we take part in Girls’ Day every year?

Girls’ Day offers girls the chance to discover new interests and skills – beyond traditional gender roles. This encourages them to choose career paths that are still considered ‘typically male’ and in which women are significantly under-represented.

Girls’ Day breaks down barriers by enabling girls to get to know the participating companies in a relaxed, group setting and to make valuable contacts for their future career paths, such as work placements, summer jobs or apprenticeships.

By getting a hands-on taste of the various areas of work, where they were able to play an active part under supervision, their self-confidence is boosted and they realise what skills they possess.

On 23 April, it was that time again. Four schoolgirls visited us at Spittelwiese to gain an insight into the various career paths available at X-Net.

As in previous years, colleagues from the three departments have come up with a variety of activities for the girls to ensure they have a varied day.

By working together to design a 3D-printed model and assembling their own network cables, the girls gained their first experience in the fields of network technology and 3D design. After the technical part, they moved on to a playful introduction to software programming. Through a coding game, the girls were able to step into the role of a software developer. By designing their own website, we sought to spark their creativity and gather their feedback on the day.

The girls took part with great enthusiasm and showed a keen interest in the various tasks. It is always a great pleasure for us too when the girls make the most of the opportunities on offer that day and we can give them an insight into our world of IT.
